Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection includes articles, newspaper clippings, family history, and local history materials for Mrs. Nina Leftwich and her collection of writings, Two Hundred Years at Muscle Shoals (history of the area).
There are articles about Lawrence County, Lauderdale County (Florence), Colbert County (Leighton, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, and Sheffield), Franklin County, Limestone County history, Civil War history, Alabama history, Native American history, Multiple Church histories just to name a few. The collection includes materials from the early 19th century.
Biographical Note
Born November 16, 1881 in Sheffield, Alabama; Nina Leftwich was a teacher. She studied at the University of Alabama, George Peabody College and got her M.A. in 1929. She operated the Leftwich Antique and Gift Shop in Sheffield; taught at Coffee High School, Florence; was a part of the Florence State Teacher's College. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Tennessee Valley Historical Society. She died March 1, 1968.
