Abstract
Robert Miller Guillot was president of UNA from 1972-1989. However, during his first two years the university was known as Florence State University. He did much to improve the athletic program at UNA and brought the first live lion mascot to the school's campus.

Biographical Note
Robert Guillot is originally from Headland, Alabama. He became president of the university in 1972. He wanted the school to get more reconition by improving its athletic program. He made improvements to the school's athletic facilities, increased athletic funding, and scholarships, and hired prominent sports coaches. This later led to UNA's sports championships of the 1980s and 1990s. he also brought Leo 1 to UNA's campus, making UNA the only college in the U.S. to have a live lion mascot living on its campus.
