This collection includes correspondence and articles for the North Alabama Historical Association. It also includes Civil War booklets, newspaper clippings of local history, and faculty meeting minutes/handbook and school related information for State Teahcers College and Florence State College/University.
Collection Historical Note
Dr. Bernarr Cresap was born November 29, 1913 in Scotia, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1942. In October of the same year, he entered the Air Force and served until he was honorably discharged in November 1945. He attended Vanderbilt University and obtained his M.A. and his PhD. He began teaching history at State Teachers College in 1950. He served as president of the Alabama Historical Society as well as the Tennessee Historical Society. Upon his retirement, he and his family moved to Tennessee, where he served as president of the Sumner County Historical Society and volunteered for the Sumner County Archives until he passed away in 1997.
