John Kendall (1861-1910) | UNA Archives and Special Collections
Name: John Kendall (1861-1910)
Historical Note: The memoir of John V. Kendall, a Union soldier, who served in the Civil War and continued to serve in the Dakotas after the war, was discovered in an unusual fashion. In the Mid-1970s, Christine E. Goldman-Oyama purchased a box containing salt and pepper shakers, old newspapers, and the hidden 263 page handwritten document that included 14 colored pen or pencil illustrations at a garage sale. Her daughter, Georgia Rink, discovered the manuscript in the box and held possession of it for approximately 50 years before donating it to the University Archives.
