Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains letters and expense vouchers from General John Coffee during his time in command of the West Tennessee Mounted Brigade and Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. These papers show various places that Coffee camped during the Indian campaigns as well as the War of 1812.

These letters have been transcribed for research purposes.

Biographical Note

Part of this collection was donated by Dan Wallace of Cypress Inn, Tennessee in 1991. Forty-seven of these documents were discovered at the National Archives among non-related files.
